designjunction spotlight 2016: Stewart Dodd of Satellite Architects

Published by

Following on from our Poolcast series at designjunction, we caught up with Stewart Dodd, Managing Director of Satellite Architects. Stewart took a key role in designjunction this year by designing it’s ‘super façade’ outside Cubitt House. Satellite collaborated with Danish design curators, Icons of Denmark, and structural engineers Elliott Wood to create the world’s largest installation of GRID, a system by Danish designer Peter J. Lassen, which stretched 70m long and 7m high. Stewart and his team were inspired to use a scaffold-like grid system to wrap around an existing screen of trees and bushes, to achieve this fluid structure that is deeply compatible with it’s surroundings.

Stewart studied at the Bartlett School of Architecture and has taught there for over 12 years. He is also now a Unit Master at the Architectural Association, a member of the RIBA Validation Board, a judge on the RIBA Awards, a member of the RIBA and fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

designjunction has grown immensely this year with the formal announcement of a brand new hub for creativity in the heart of kings cross - #KXCQ. For London Design Festival, more than 200 contemporary brands, designers, and studios, take home to the area near UAL to come alive with a theme that’s all about immersive design.
